Transformers for the aeronautical and naval sectors

We manufacture, by design or to customer specification, all types of transformers for all production sectors.

We have extensive experience in designing transformers of all types and offer feasibility study, design and rapid prototyping services. We can manufacture transformers in small, medium or large quantities/lots, using tracked, high quality materials and controlled, effective and efficient processes. When required, we design for the best possible ratio of efficiency, size and weight.

A large part of our production is destined for the aerospace, naval and defence sectors, for which our quality management system is certified in accordance with EN 9100:2018. Our past and present customers include companies from the most diverse sectors: railway, automotive, radio, electro-medical, photovoltaic, electronics, etc., as well as research institutions.

We are able to manufacture many types of transformers, from the most common to special transformers, both toroidal and linear, depending on the customer's needs and the type of application. We use different magnetic materials, such as ferrite, and manufacture flyback, push-pull, forward and other types of transformers.

We choose the type of wire to be used according to the type of transformer and the requirements of the customer and the application. We can use jacketed wire, both solderable and non-solderable, copper flat, copper braid and Litz wire insulated with materials such as silk, nylon or polyester.

We are flexible in the definition of testing for prototypes and finished products. We also offer manufacturing resin-encased transformers, including baking in a temperature-controlled oven if required.

Our product range is extensive and customised according to customer requirements. We always seek an optimal balance between quality and price, taking into account the sector and type of application.

The following is an example of the types of transformers we make:

Resin-encapsulated transformers

Transformers in which one or more components are sealed and encapsulated in resin. This mode allows the transformer to be protected from moisture, dirt and other elements potentially hazardous to its operation. This mode of construction allows the transformer to function perfectly even under severe conditions of use, as the core and coil are better protected. Every step in the process is meticulously monitored; the impregnation process takes place in a vacuum. Resin-encapsulated transformers maintain high performance even at high operating temperatures by dissipating heat away from the core and coil and improving electrical insulation.

Low-profile transformers

Low-profile transformers ideal for printed circuit boards usually constructed with grain-oriented C-core.

This type of transformer typically operates at a frequency of 50/60Hz. This range of transformers satisfies the need to supply power to electronic equipment even when a low height is required. We are also available to customise the product with the customer according to the PCB power supply requirement, including with 3D printing of the enclosure.

Sight-mounted transformers from 1VA to 100VA

These are typically power transformers used for electronics with a 220Vac primary winding. The two equal secondary windings can be connected in series or in parallel. In the first case, one has double the voltage as well as the possibility of central zero. In the second case, you get a doubled current and an unchanged voltage.

Single-phase control transformers

Single-phase control transformers CTA are special types of isolating transformers, usually used to supply control circuits. These transformers have the characteristic of reducing the short-circuit current in the event of a fault. They also allow the use of auxiliary circuits without earthing. They are transformers typically used to supply very low safety voltage circuits.

Power: 50 - 3000 VA

Three-phase safety transformers

Three-phase safety transformer typically used to supply safety extra-low voltage circuits where electrical separation, by means of double insulation, between windings is required.

Three-phase autotransformers

The three-phase autotransformer is usually used if two three-phase voltages have to be adapted without separating the mains from the load.

Even in cases where there is no need to separate mains and load, the use of an autotransformer can be beneficial as it allows for a single winding and small dimensions even at high power, the more similar the input and output powers are.

Also in this case, our three-phase autotransformers can be customised and manufactured according to the specifications of the customer, who can inform us of their requirements in terms of power, input and output voltages, finishes, etc.

Toroidal Transformers

These are toroidal power supply transformers and are particularly suitable if space is limited or if there is a need to reduce operating noise. They can be used for various purposes: power supply, audio, etc.

The core and wire used to produce the toroidal transformers are usually agreed with the customer, depending on the requirements and type of use.

We usually use grain-oriented silicon cores and class G2 copper wire.

The efficiency of this type of transformer is very high and exceeds 90%.

Toroidal transformers can also be supplied with a screen to reduce or eliminate magnetic flux interference.

Power: 300 - 15000 VA

Ferrite transformers

These are transformers suitable for switching converters. According to customer requirements, we can manufacture ferrite transformers covering a power range from a few kW to over 100 kW, with frequencies ranging from 10 to 200kHz. The wide choice of cores, including those custom-made according to specific design requirements, as well as the large selection of conductor types for winding, allow for a fully customised product according to the intended use.

Measuring transformers (CT and TV)

Measuring transformers make it possible to standardise current and voltage values at the secondary side. They are used in circuits in which the current or voltage reaches values that are not compatible with those of standard instruments, control relays and protection systems; they also ensure improved safety conditions for operators. There are two basic types of measurement transformers: voltage transformers (VT) and current transformers (CT). Current transformers provide a current on the secondary side that is proportional to the current flowing in the primary. VTs are typically used to measure line voltage. They are designed to have a very precise ratio between the input voltage to be measured and the output voltage.

We manufacture both types of measuring transformers, also customised.

  • Current Transformers (CT) for DIN Rail
  • Current Transformers (CT) encased in a self-extinguishing epoxy resin container with high insulation between primary and secondary.
  • Voltmeter Transformers (VT)
  • High Frequency Voltmetric Transformers

400Hz TRANSFORMERS

These transformers are mainly used in civil and military aeronautics. 400 Hz transformers are particularly light and compact compared to those operating at 50 or 60 Hz. The low weight and dimensions are the main advantages of this transformer family and make them ideal for use in the aviation sector. Finally, 400 Hz transformers have a power output in the order of a few hundred kW and relatively weak short-circuit currents (they rarely exceed a value of 4 times nominal intensity).

We manufacture a wide range of 400 Hz transformers, please contact us for info.
